If you or someone you love is near the end of life and wants comfort care where they live, BC's Palliative Care Benefits Program can help. It pays for palliative medicines and gives medical supplies and equipment. ▸ Who can get this? You may qualify if all of these are true: • You live in BC and are enrolled in MSP (Medical Services Plan) • You have been diagnosed with a life-threatening condition • Your life expectancy is up to 6 months • You agree that your care will focus on comfort, not on curing the illness • You are not in hospital, and not in a long-term care home registered with PharmaCare Plan B You can be at home, with family or friends, in assisted living, in a hospice unit or in a residential care facility. Any age can qualify. ▸ What you get • 100% coverage of palliative medicines on the Plan P drug list, both prescription and over-the-counter • Medical supplies and equipment through your local health authority ▸ How to apply 1. Talk with your doctor or nurse practitioner about palliative care. 2. They fill out the registration form with you and send it to PharmaCare and your health authority. 3. You or your legal representative signs the form. If no one can sign, the care provider may sign. ▸ Good to know • The form is usually processed within 12 to 24 hours. • New BC residents not yet on MSP can still be covered. Until MSP starts, you pay first and send receipts to get money back. • Drugs not on the Plan P list may be covered by another PharmaCare plan. • For supplies and equipment, contact your health authority's home and community care office. • Questions? PharmaCare Help Desk: 1-800-663-7100 (toll-free) or 604-683-7151 (Lower Mainland). Telephone for the Deaf: 711.
