If you get income, disability, or hardship assistance in BC, this supplement can help you keep paying for your home when someone in your family is away for a while or has died. ▸ When it can help (usually up to 3 months, sometimes up to 6): • A family member is in a treatment or special care facility (for example alcohol and drug treatment) • A family member is in a private hospital or in hospital for extended care • A family member is in jail for a short time • A family member has died • Your child is temporarily in care and you are working to bring them home (no time limit, reviewed every 6 months) ▸ Good to know: • You must ask for it — it is not automatic • The amount is based on your actual housing costs and what your assistance was before • If the person will be away more than 6 months, it does not apply ▸ How to ask: My Self Serve online, call 1-866-866-0800, or visit a ministry office (Kelowna: 405 Highway 33 West; West Kelowna: 3685 Hoskins Rd).
