If you rent in B.C., have a low income and pay more than 30% of your income on rent, the Canada-BC Housing Benefit (CBCHB) may help you pay rent. It is for people who don't qualify for other BC Housing rent programs. ▸ Who can get this? You can't apply directly. A provider chooses people from priority groups. These may include: • People experiencing or at risk of homelessness • Women, gender-diverse people and their children experiencing or at risk of violence • Indigenous people • People living with a disability • People living with mental health or addiction issues • Veterans • Racialized communities • Youth leaving care • Large families who need 4 or more bedrooms, and households who need a wheelchair-accessible home • Others on the subsidized housing waitlist You must also: • Live in B.C. and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, government-sponsored refugee, or have applied for refugee status • Rent your main home and pay more than 30% of your gross monthly income on rent • Have household income under the limit: $31,992 a year for singles or couples with no children; $40,000 for families of 4 or fewer; $44,400 for families of 5 or more ▸ How to be considered 1. Apply to the BC Housing Registry (online housing application). BC Housing picks some people from the registry. 2. Or a non-profit housing provider that serves you may invite you to apply. 3. If invited, send your application and documents to the provider. 4. If approved, the provider sends you an approval letter and sets up direct deposit of the benefit to you or your landlord. ▸ Good to know • Help is given until that year's funding runs out. • Not eligible: subsidized housing, a home you own (except renting a manufactured home pad), or room-and-board. • Tell your provider about any changes. ▸ Contact: 604-433-2218 or toll-free 1-800-257-7756
