Interior Health helps people with an advancing illness, and their families, live well at home and in their community for as long as they wish. ▸ Care options • Home-based palliative care from nurses, care aides and other health professionals. They help manage pain and symptoms, give emotional and spiritual support, and teach caregivers. • Community hospice beds for respite, symptom care, or the last days or weeks of life. These are in hospice houses or long-term care homes. Hospice houses are in Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Kamloops. • Hospital stays for short-term pain and symptom care. ▸ Who can get home-based palliative care • A life-limiting illness with a life expectancy of six months or less • Registered with BC Palliative Care Benefits (no charge for most medication, medical equipment, supplies and nursing care) ▸ Cost • Community hospice beds have a daily (per diem) fee.
