A hospital inpatient program at Kelowna General Hospital for youth ages 12-17 with serious psychiatric symptoms, such as psychosis, mood disorders or anxiety disorders, who need a longer stay for assessment and treatment planning. ▸ What to expect • 8 beds. Stays are from 10 days to several weeks. • A team of nurses, youth and family counsellors, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, teachers and psychiatrists. • You leave with recommendations for follow-up in your home community. ▸ Who can use it • Youth 12-17 who live in the Interior Health region. • Not for youth whose main problem is a severe behaviour disorder, substance use, a significant developmental delay or an eating disorder. ▸ How to get in • Referral only. A physician or clinician fills out the APU Intake Referral Form. Referrals come from Child and Youth Mental Health (MCFD), psychiatrists, or Interior Health Mental Health and Substance Use services.
