Respite gives family and other unpaid caregivers a short, planned break. The person you care for stays for a short time in a long-term care facility and gets 24-hour care there. ▸ How to get it Call Interior Health Home and Community Care Central Intake: 1-800-707-8550. If your loved one already gets home health services, you can call your local care manager instead. ▸ Cost If you get publicly subsidized short-stay services, you pay a fixed daily rate. If this would cause serious financial hardship, you can ask your Home and Community Care office for a temporary reduction. ▸ What to bring List of medications, Provincial Health Number (PHN), emergency contacts, washable clothes, mobility aids, and personal items like hearing aids, dentures and toiletries.
