You can reach them by phone, email or online. ▸ What can BCANDS help with? • Understanding and applying for disability programs • Reviewing Persons with Disabilities (PWD) applications for people living in BC First Nation communities. PWD is an approval that gives you extra disability benefits. BCANDS does this for Indigenous Services Canada. • Applying for the Monthly Nutritional Supplement (MNS) • Jordan's Principle services for First Nations children • Setting up a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and applying for the Canada Disability Savings Grant and Bond • Disability case management • National Indigenous Navigation Services (NINS) for support outside BC • Indigenous Employment Engagement Program • National First Nation Accessible Housing Consultation • Voices of Inclusion: oral histories of Indigenous disability • Indigenous Disability Awareness Month (every November) and a yearly National Indigenous Disability and Wellness Gathering ▸ Who can get PWD approval through BCANDS? The PWD program is for people living in BC First Nation communities. You must meet all of these: • You are 18 or older. You can apply up to 6 months before you turn 18. Benefits start at 18. • You have a severe physical or mental impairment. • It will last at least 2 years, or you are getting palliative care. • It makes daily living activities much harder. • You need an assistive device, a lot of help from another person, or an assistance animal for daily activities. A doctor or nurse practitioner fills out part of the application. ▸ How to get help 1. Fill out the online Client Service Request form for case management or RDSP help. 2. Or call or email the office. 3. For PWD or MNS, call extension 206 or email pwd@bcands.bc.ca. ▸ Good to know • The office is closed from noon to 1 PM every day. • It is also closed on weekends and statutory holidays, including National Indigenous Peoples Day, BC Family Day and Christmas Eve. • If no one answers, leave a message with your name and number.
