Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) is a safe, proven treatment for opioid use disorder. The main medicines are Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) and methadone. They give long-lasting relief from withdrawal and cravings. Newer treatments, injectable OAT (iOAT) and tablet OAT (TiOAT), are offered in some communities. ▸ How to get it: talk to your doctor, or call 310-MHSU (6478) to reach your local mental health and substance use centre. ▸ Kelowna Mental Health & Substance Use: 505 Doyle Avenue, 250-469-7070, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you go to an emergency department for an overdose, extra follow-up support is available.
