If you want to adopt a child or youth in BC foster care, you can apply through Adopt BC Kids, the Province's public adoption program. Adopt BC Kids is only for families who have the skills to parent a child or youth with complex needs. If you are hoping to adopt an infant or a child with low needs, contact a BC licensed adoption agency. ▸ Who can apply? • You live in BC • You are 19 or older ▸ How to apply: 1. Apply online. You need a BC Services Card to log in. 2. Take the five-hour online Introduction to Adoption and Permanency course. 3. If you move forward, take LEAP, a 10-week course of about 6 to 8 hours a week. 4. An adoption worker does a homestudy, with home visits and interviews. 5. If approved, you can be matched with a child or youth. ▸ Support after adoption: Post-Adoption Assistance can give financial and practical support.
