If you are a young person charged with a federal offence, you have the right to a lawyer. Legal Aid BC can help. ▸ Good to know • If you are arrested, you have the right to speak to a lawyer. • You have rights under the Youth Criminal Justice Act before police can question you. • If you are in foster care (in the care of MCFD), talk to your social worker to arrange a lawyer. ▸ Legal aid can also cover • Serious family problems, child protection, mental health and prison issues, and immigration and refugee issues • Legal Aid BC pays for a lawyer if your problem is covered, you meet their financial guidelines, and you have no other way to get help. ▸ How to apply • Call 1-866-577-2525 (604-408-2172 in Greater Vancouver) • Or apply online, or at a legal aid location.
