Helps you learn about your Métis family history and connect to your culture. Staff use Métis genealogy resources and family tree software to trace your ancestors. Once you know where the Métis history is in your family line, you can start applying for Métis Citizenship. ▸ For children in care Roots workers also help children and youth in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). They help social workers identify Métis heritage, make Cultural Plans, and attend family group and decision-making circles. ▸ What to bring As much information as you can about 5 generations of your family. Most people have trouble going past the 3rd generation — bring what you have. ▸ How to get this A parent or guardian, family doctor, community worker or agency, school staff, or a correctional facility can refer you.
