Categories: Legal, Seniors, Victim Services
If you are worried that an adult can't manage their own money, legal matters, or personal care — and may be abused, neglected, or neglecting themselves — you can tell the Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT). ▸ What the PGT does: • Gives information about options to help the adult • Advises on complex situations of abuse, neglect, or self-neglect • Investigates if needed — looking for the least intrusive help that works • As a last resort, may take over the adult's financial and legal affairs if the adult can't manage them ▸ They investigate when all three are true: • The adult may not be mentally able to manage their finances • There is a specific, urgent need • No one else suitable has authority or is willing to act ▸ How to make a referral: 1. Fill out the online referral form. You give your name, phone, and relationship to the adult. The law protects your identity. 2. If you can't use the form, call 604-660-4507 or email ais-pds@trustee.bc.ca. They respond to every report. Investigations often take more than six months.
