Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) runs a Consumer Information Centre. Experienced insurance professionals answer general insurance questions. They can help if your home, car or business was damaged by a wildfire. ▸ They can help explain the words in your policy and how to make a claim. If they can't answer, they will direct you to someone who can. ▸ What IBC says about wildfire coverage: • All standard homeowner's and tenant's insurance policies cover fire damage. • They also include coverage to help with the cost of other housing and living expenses if you can't go home because of a mandatory evacuation order, or because your home is unlivable from insured damage. • If you are under an evacuation order, you can start a claim right away, even if you don't know if your home is damaged. ▸ First, contact your insurance representative or insurance company. If you need help, call IBC at 1-844-227-5422 (1-844-2ASK-IBC) or email AskIBCWest@ibc.ca. ▸ Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
